Last summer, 80% of Midland Mainline services ran on time - but this year that figure fell to 60%.

The firm blamed train breakdowns and track repairs for many of the problems.

However, spokeswoman Emma Knight said action was being taken to ensure things improve.

The company has a new managing director and operations director, and recently created a new position of fleet engineering director.

Ms Knight said: "All these positions are completely focused on improving the performance of Midland Mainline.

"Where we are at the moment is really not good enough for us, or our passengers."
