The UK Libertas campaign is led by ex-soldier Robin Matthews |
A new EU-wide political movement has won 73,544 votes in the UK in the European Parliament election. Libertas, which put up 532 candidates across Europe, won 0.5% of the UK vote, finishing in 13th place. It was founded by businessman Declan Ganley, who became a household name in Ireland where he led the successful campaign against the Lisbon Treaty. The party wants elected European Commissioners and an end to corruption and the Brussels "gravy train".
