Ginger Spice under fire in Philippines

There's continuing controversy in the Philippines surrounding the visit of the British singer Geri Halliwell, who's promoting contraception and safe sex as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations population fund.

A leading Roman Catholic bishop Pedro Quitorio has said the church opposes the message Miss Halliwell, a former Spice Girl, is bringing.

He called on the UN to send a goodwill ambassador who would respect the sensibilities of the people.

Most Filipinos are members of the Roman Catholic church, which teaches that contraception and abortion are sinful.
