Singapore Soccer Bribery

Convicted: camera shy Ng Ek Seng

A man has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment in Singapore after being convicted in a soccer bribery case.

Ng Ek Seng is said to have paid one player several thousand dollars to help lose a match.

The court heard that large sums of money were gambled on the outcome of English league as well as South-East Asian matches.

The BBC correspondent in South Asia says betting on soccer is illegal in most South-East Asian countries, but goes on through gambling syndicates, some of which are linked to Triad groups.
