Soul II Soul
Soul II Soul reached the No 1 spot in the UK charts with Back to Life in 1989. The Soul II Soul collective was originally formed in 1982 by Jazzie B and Phillip ‘Daddae’ Harvey. They first played at street parties and youth clubs, but by the mid-1980s they had become one of the leading promoters of warehouse raves in London.

Their singles blended Chic-inspired disco string arrangements with 1980s rap and hip hop. Their first album, Club Classics Volume 1 was an international success and sold two million copies in the USA.
