South African shebeens - drinking dens in residential areas - are under threat in the Western Cape province, as the authorities try to crack down on the thousands of bars operating without licences, saying they breed crime. The BBC visited Makati's Paradise shebeen in Gugulethu township, to gauge the views of owner Dennis Makati and his customers, and witnessed the arrival of the police.
