The Australian Labor Party says it now has enough support to form a government in Queensland, after winning the vital support of an independent MP.

Labor's majority means that Pauline Hanson's One Nation party -- which campaigned on a protectionist and anti-immigration platform -- will not, as feared by Labor, hold the balance of power in the state parliament.

Correspondents say the One Nation party sent shock waves through Australian politics earlier this month, when it won twenty-three percent of the vote in Queensland's state elections.
