Carlsberg says it is brewing better full-year results
Danish brewer Carlsberg has reported lower than expected first-quarter profits, but insists it is still on schedule to hit its full year target.

For the first three months of 2004, its pre-tax earnings rose to 154m Danish crowns (14m; 20.7m euros), below the market expectation of 186m crowns.

Carlsberg's total beer sales for the period rose 4% on the same period in 2003, to 16.8m hectolitres.

It repeated its full-year pre-tax forecast of 3.5bn to 3.7bn crowns.

In January Carlsberg bought German brewer Holsten for 500m euros.
