Love is playing at the Reading and Leeds festivals

Rock singer Courtney Love has placed full-page adverts in two US publications in an attempt to recruit members for her live band.

The advert in New York's Village Voice and LA Weekly states: "Women required for International Rock Revolution."

It adds: "Join Courtney Love's touring band and get famous, see the world."

Love, former singer with rock band Hole, is due to play at the Reading and Leeds festivals in August.

She will follow the shows with European dates, and a North American tour in the autumn.

Love's advert asks for someone who can "really play" bass or guitar and says the successful applicant must "look like a Goddess".

She adds that "no boys" will be considered.

Callers to a phone number listed in the advert hear an answer phone message from Love stating: "Hey, leave us your info. You better be able to play."

New songs

Love is working on her first solo album, America's Sweetheart, and negotiating a record deal in the US.

She is already signed to Poptones/Telstar in the UK.

Some of her new songs have been co-written with 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry.

Love, former wife of the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, is well known for her unpredictable behaviour and outrageous antics.

In February she was arrested at Heathrow Airport after Virgin Atlantic cabin crew complained about her behaviour during a flight. She was let off with a police caution.
