Street actor denies theft claims

Jimmi Harkishin plays shopkeeper Dev in the ITV1 soap
Coronation Street star Jimmi Harkishin has strenuously denied allegations of theft at a shopping centre.

The Mirror reported on Monday that Mr Harkishin, 45, was arrested at Brent Cross shopping centre, north-west London, on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said a 45-year-old man had been arrested and cautioned over an "alleged deception under the theft act".

A spokesman for Granada said: "Jimmi emphatically denies the allegations."

The Metropolitan Police spokeswoman added: "We were alerted mid-afternoon on 7 November by a store at Brent Cross shopping centre, regarding a customer.

"A 45-year-old man was arrested over alleged deception under the theft act."

Harkishin plays shopkeeper Dev Alahan in the ITV1 soap.

His character is at the centre of a love-triangle between his new wife Sunita and former love Maya.
