Singer Tony Christie has made chart history by hanging on to the number one spot for the seventh week in a row with (Is This The Way To) Amarillo. The last single to spend that long at number one was Believe from Cher from October to December 1998.
Wet Wet Wet's single Love Is All Around was the last song to spend eight weeks or more at the top, in 1994.
Christie saw off competition from combo Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and Charlie Wilson, in at two with Signs.
Christie's singles chart success comes despite the inclusion of legal download music sales three weeks ago.
