Simon Pegg on the red carpet The stars of the new Star Trek movie have gathered in London's West End for the film's British premiere. Actors from the latest sci-fi outing, including Simon Pegg and Chris Pine - who plays Captain Kirk - were greeted by hundreds of fans. Other actors including Eric Bana and Heroes' Zachary Quinto - who is Spock - were also in Leicester Square. The new movie charts the early days of the starship Enterprise, with original Spock Leonard Nimoy in a cameo role. The film, which had its premiere in Sydney, Australia, is due to be released across the UK on 8 May. 'Geek dream' The actors have been jetting around the world on a tour to promote the new movie, stopping off in several countries including Japan, France and New Zealand. The London event dispensed with the traditional red carpet in favour of a special blue Star Trek one. Star Trek fans at the premiere Pegg said at the premiere: "For me, tonight is very special. It's the Empire Leicester Square. I saw films here as a child... it's a geek dream come true." HAVE YOUR SAYStar Trek's appeal is that it portrays a beautiful vision of where the Human race could be in the future D Clark, Southampton It is the 11th in the long-running franchise and also features Hollywood actress Winona Ryder. The story centres on the crew's efforts to save the universe from a renegade Romulan called Nero (Bana), who is hell bent on destroying the Earth. Pegg plays Enterprise engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the new release - a role which required him to reproduce a Scottish accent. The new film was directed by JJ Abrams, creator of hit US television series Lost.
