The Secretary-General of NATO, Javier Solana, is in Macedonia for talks on the conflict in the neighbouring Serbian province of Kosovo.

Today, he met the Macedonian President, Kiro Gligorov.

Macedonian leaders have welcomed assistance from NATO to curb arms-trafficking to Kosovo and to stop the rebel Kosovo Liberation Army operating in Macedonia.

However, they have also said they won't agree to NATO using Macedonia as a base for any punitive actions against Serbia.

The talks will also cover relations between NATO and Macedonia, including possible membership.
