Mayan people in the western highlands of Guatemala are protesting against open-pit gold mining close to the town of Sipacapa. They say the mine has damaged their homes and caused pollution. The Canadian company which owns the site - Goldcorp - has hired experts to refute the claims , and says its work has created much-needed jobs. The company has also paid for healthcare facilities and schooling for local children.
