New technology to enable people to withdraw money from cash machines using their smartphone has been unveiled.

Nearly 10 times as many �5 notes are being dispensed from cash machines than in the summer of 2010, the Bank of England says.

The use of cash machines in the UK hit a record level in 2011, with �191bn withdrawn over the year, figures show.
