Parking fines
traffic warden graphic
Most of us who drive, have experienced the frustration of receiving what we feel is an unjustified parking ticket.

It now seems thousands of people who take issue with the authorities over parking penalties are winning - and getting their fines overturned.

Breakfast's Luisa Baldini was live in North London . She interviewed Nick Lester, the director of the Transport and Environmental Committee.

  • Luisa said:

"Many people across the country are having their fines overturned."
In Haringey where we are, more than one hundred and forty thousand parking tickets were issued for the year between between March 200 and 2001, covered by the figures. Almost three thousand people appealed against their fines and more than two and a half thousand of these were successful. For this part of London that's a 95 per cent success rate. And for the picture around the country: 88 per cent of appeals in Bristol were upheld. 77 per cent of those who challeneged their fines in Manchester won the day. In Portsmouth 71 per cent of appeals resulted in the traffic fines being overturned.
