Poland's identity crisis
Father Romuald Jakub Weksler-Waskinel
The programme meets a Catholic priest who discovered his true roots

BBC Radio 4's Crossing Continents was broadcast on Thursday, 13 November at 1100 GMT.

The programme was repeated on Monday, 17 November, at 2030 GMT.

Rosie Goldsmith travels to Poland, and finds a country dealing with complex questions as it prepares to join the European Union.

She meets a small, but growing number of Poles - including a Catholic priest - who are discovering they have hidden Jewish roots.

She finds out how they are re-examining their identity in the light of the revelation.

And she examines whether Poland is siding with its European Union neighbours or the United States in taking military control of multinational troops in central Iraq.

Producer: Jennie Walmsley
Presenter: Rosie Goldsmith
Editor: Hugh Levinson
