Fergal Keane ignored Mugabe's ban on BBC journalists and ventured into southern Zimbabwe, where he spoke to victims and witnesses of mass killings.

Disguised as a tourist, he travelled around Matabeleland to meet those who were brave enough to speak out.

In Sunday night's programme he also reveals the extent of the British Government's knowledge of Mugabe's campaigns of terror in the 1980s.

Should the British Government have intervened years ago to prevent the killings? Would it have made any difference? Did the failure to confront Mugabe convince him he could get away with murder?
