Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has welcomed an announcement by Toyota to build a full hybrid version of its Auris hatchback at its UK factory in Derbyshire.
It comes after a report by a group of MPs investigating the impact of the recession on the car industry.
They say car makers are not getting enough economic support from the government.
