Tuition fees: Debt versus quality of education

A BBC survey of universities in England and Wales suggests most would like to put their fees up to at least �5,000 a year.

Student Julia Prague challenged then-Prime Minister Tony Blair on tuition fees in a 2004 edition of Newsnight. She has since graduated as a doctor, and still thinks expecting students to take on such high levels of debt is wrong.

But Professor Malcolm Grant, provost of University College London says the issue is about ensuring high-quality education.
