Heinz selling off two factories
Food giant Heinz has sold its sandwich factory in Bedfordshire and is negotiating the sale of its Linda McCartney frozen food business.

The Hain Celestial Group has bought its chilled food division, including the Luton factory, for an undisclosed sum.

Hain may also buy the vegetarian food business in Britain which includes the Linda McCartney plant in Fakenham, Norfolk.

Heinz has said it would consult employees before any deal is reached.

The sandwich factory in Bedfordshire employs 425 workers. Another 200 people work at the Fakenham plant. The Westwick potato processing site, which employs 200 people, will be retained by Heinz.

The developments come a year after the management at Heinz ordered a review of some of its businesses, saying performance in Europe was below par.

The international food giant has said it is to focus on ketchup, sauces, meals, snacks and infant nutrition.
