Domestic violence and crime prevention issues are set to be raised on parking tickets in south Devon.

For two months, drivers parking in any of Torbay Council's car parks will find contact numbers for victims of domestic abuse and crime on their tickets.

The scheme is being supported by a number of aid groups, the council and the police.

The aid groups said it was an "excellent way" of raising profiles and communicating useful contact numbers.

Tickets highlighting domestic abuse will display a confidential helpline provided by South Devon Women's Aid, and other tickets will include how to contact police, and numbers for the Safer Communities Torbay scheme and Neighbourhood Watch.

Domestic violence forum co-ordinator Jo Allen said: "The tickets are an excellent way of communicating contact numbers to victims.

"As well as raising the awareness of a subject that is sometimes brushed under the carpet, the tickets highlight the effects of domestic abuse."

Torbay's Crime Reduction Sergeant, Sarah Passmore, said: "People are sometimes worried about using the 999 facility. Hopefully, the information on these tickets will help and ensure the public do contact police when they are a victim or witnessing a crime taking place."
