Jodie is guiding Mani through the cemetery towards Stella's grave when he asks her to stop. He can't go through with it unless he knows she's forgiven him. Jodie admits she could never understand why he abandoned them - she used to get so angry at him. The first time she remembers was when she was 8 and they were living at Greenham Common protest camp...
Some of the other children at the camp were calling her names, saying she was different from everyone else. She ran to her mum wanting to know where her dad was, but all her mum could say was that she hoped he would look for them one day when he was better. Jodie hated him then.
Mani tells Jodie she was right to be angry but that it wasn't his fault he wasn't there - he never knew she existed. Jodie says that after the camp they went to Newcastle with one of their friends, Clare. She helped them settle in but lots of people looked down on them - although that just brought them closer together. Even when she was older she didn't want to leave her mother alone and stayed at home. Then she found out that her mum had cancer. She didn't know what she was going to do without her and was angry at her dad for not being there and letting her suffer.
