| | A cultural feast of African-Caribbean dance-drama is set to bring the Rep theatre alive with the story of Bad Hand.
|
 | | | Bad Hand is a dance-drama which draws on African-Caribbean tradition and form to deliver its themes.
The story is told through music, dance and song. It explores love, jealousy, superstition, and instinct.
 | | Bad Hand - an African-Caribbean dance drama | Performed by an all African-Caribbean cast, there are four characters;
* Mama and her daughter Mimi who share a wonderful relationship, * Neba, who always has a friendly greeting and is especially fond of Mimi, * Duppy - an apparition who appears in the night and is intent on stealing Mimi away.
The show is composed and choreographed by Ansell Broderick, who was born in Britain to a Jamaican family.
He lives in Leeds but has been working for the past three years in Birmingham, including at The Drum Arts Centre.
Bad Hand has already been seen in some nursery and primary schools in Birmingham and the Black Country, as part of the Arts Council's Creative Partnerships scheme.

Jonathan Church the Artistic Director at the Rep said:
"Itβs fantastic that hundreds of school children have already seen this production and that many more will now be able to see it at The Rep. Bad Hand is very visual and entertaining. The dates at The Rep provide an ideal opportunity for all the family to come and see it together during the Easter holidays."
The show is suitable for all ages from 7 to 70 and lasts for approximately one hour.
Bad Hand is being performed in 'The Door' at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from Wednesday 16th - Saturday 19th April 2003.
Ansell Broderick writes about his reasons for writing the play and the experiences which lead him to form his own production company. Also see pictures from the show, with our picture gallery.
