| | The Hall Green Little Theatre was founded in the 1950's - and they're still going strong today.
Simon Pittock a theatre member tells us about the theatre and how you can get involved. |
| | | Based in Acocks Green in Birmingham the Hall Green Little Theatre is a voluntary organisation run entirely by its members, an elected council and various committee groups.
Having just renewed my membership, I am now in my third year as an active member.
My activities at the theatre include secretary of the marketing committee, sound and lighting work, carpentry, set building and the design and upkeep of our website - amongst other things!
I became a member of the theatre at the age of 22 and joined a long list of thespians, techies, stage hands and dedicated members who have helped to shape and mould the theatre since it was built in 1950.

At that time the group was without premises and despite a lack of money, experience, formal skills or training they decided to build their own theatre from the ground-up.
During a period of stringent restrictions due to post-war rebuilding work, the group overcame enormous adversity and with a stalwart determination, a good deal of Heath Robinson inventiveness and a lot of back-breaking work they built their very own theatre.

The building stands today with the addition of the "Act II" extension. Built during the seventies, it provided the theatre with a large new foyer area, a bar lounge and a new studio theatre.
During each season we run six plays in our Veitch Theatre (the main stage) and four in our Signature Theatre (the studio).
With each play there are opportunities for directing, stage management, props work, set building, technical design and operation and a host of other jobs besides.

We have an active friendly community within the theatre and members range in age from our junior Youth Theatre members to some of the founder members who can even point out which bricks they laid during the theatre’s construction!
We are always pleased to welcome new members to the theatre, so why not come along and see what we do for yourself.
We usually run a new members night at 8pm on the Monday before each of our main stage productions, which everyone is welcome to attend.
