Across the UK, leading organisations are using AI tools to push boundaries and create smarter ways of working. By seeing how AI is used in real careers, you can build your confidence and feel more prepared for the future. Watch the film to find out more.
Fee Mak, Presenter: My name is Fee Mak and I'm here at the Science Museum in London, where students are meeting experts at top UK organisations to find out how they use AI in their roles.
Student: I feel like the coolest software I've seen today is make your own agent and train AI to work for you.
Student: I learned how to create my own agent and I'm looking forward touse it in programs.
Anoup, Microsoft: What we've done with these agents has made them very specific. So we give them specific tools, specific reasoning for that specific thing.
Student: The coolest one I've seen today was probably the use of AI to monitor heart rhythm.
Student: I want to go into medicine or neurosurgery when they use the ECGs and the stethoscopes. It makes everything advanced.
Ahmed, Imperial College, London: So, if we can then feed that ECG into the AI model, it will analyse it and it will look at really subtle invisible signatures or changes in the heart trace.
Student: AI is not that scary at all. Everyone warns you against using AI, but no one really talks about the benefits of AI.

Interacting with AI
In March 2026, BBC Bitesize’s Guide to AI team hosted a Careers in AI event at the Science Museum, London, giving young people the chance to see how professionals use AI in their everyday work.
Students got hands‑on with tools from leading UK organisations, exploring how AI is transforming industries like fashion, medicine, conservation, beauty and more. They also discovered how understanding AI can boost your CV and confidence when planning your future career.

Using AI agents
One big idea when using AI is that your tools are only as good as the way you use them. Or, as one teen put it perfectly, it’s all about “making AI work for you.”
Microsoft apprentices design and use 'AI agents' - tools designed to do specific tasks. On show at the event, and designed specifically for students, were AI agents to help with improving CVs, practise debating, or breaking down tricky homework.
AI agents work best when you give them a clear purpose, so the more specific your prompt, the more useful the answer. It’s like giving directions, “go west” is fine, but “turn left at the café, then look for the blue door” gets you there faster.

Staying up to date
Across different careers, AI-powered tools are assisting professionals by giving them more detailed insights, saving time, or helping them spot things humans might miss. AI is more often supporting specialists than replacing them.
For example, wearable tech with AI features is giving research clinicians at Imperial College London's Heart and Lung Institute clearer information about patients’ health. Instead of replacing doctors or scientists, AI is enabling them to make faster, more accurate decisions and diagnoses.
Fashion designers at ASOS, who have all embraced AI tools, are now able to streamline their design processes and generate less waste by reducing the amount of samples needed.
Keeping up with how AI is used in the career you want is an easy way to show you’re genuinely interested. Plus, understanding how it might shape your industry can make you feel more confident when thinking about your future.

Remembering your secret weapon
Even with all these clever tools, there’s something AI can’t replace and that is human creativity and original thinking.
The best results come when AI supports your ideas not when it makes them for you. That’s why learning how to use AI critically is so powerful. When you understand what it can do (and what it can’t do), the whole thing feels much less intimidating.
One thing that I’ve learned is that AI’s really not that scary at all!
