M1: Algebra

In Algebra, factorising is the opposite of expanding.

Algebra is the part of mathematics in which letters and other symbols are used to represent numbers in expressions, formulas, equations, and inequalities.

For an equation, the expression on the left hand side is equal to the expression on the right hand side. This means the equation is balanced

Algebraic expressions can be expanded - multiplied by one or more terms. They may also be simplified – made shorter and simpler by collecting like terms.

Real-life situations can be represented by algebraic expressions and formula. We can then use these to solve problems such as working out costs, timings, quantities, etc.

Coordinates are used to describe the position of points on a grid.

A graph can be used in real life situations to help with working out quantities, often costs.
