Complaint
A viewer complained that the programme promoted “gender identity ideology”. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
The interview was with Martina Navratilova, who set out her views on trans women competing in women’s sporting events, referring to studies showing they had physical advantages over biologically female competitors. What the complainant took to be promotion of gender identity ideology was simply a reference by Amol Rajan to other studies which suggested trans women were at a disadvantage in some circumstances. The ECU saw no departure from impartiality in calling attention to the range of relevant scientific opinion.
