The Larmer Tree Festival 2008, between Blandford and Shaftesbury in north Dorset, was opened by Jools Holland & his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra - and so began the festival's 18th year.
Help playing audio/video Totalling 108 hours of entertainment, including 80 bands across seven stages over five days - it was the biggest Larmer Tree Festival yet. One of the most family-friendly festivals around, other big name acts on the bill included The Levellers and acoustic star Kate Rusby. ![]() Sally Taylor with singer Andrea Soler Plenty of locally-based acts were performing there too, including singer/songwriter Andrea Soler. Festival organiser James Shepherd says: "This year's gone brilliantly. Everyone seems to be having a great time." Someone else who has been at the festival since its beginnings in 1990 is main stage MC Pete Bettle, where he says he ran a bouncy castle at the one-day festival, as it was then. He explains why the ground in which the festival is held is called the Larmer Tree: ![]() The venue for the festival "It's [named after] the legendary tree that no-one's ever seen, that's said to be on the junction of three counties - Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.
