Episode 3 | Written by Richard Stoneman
  • Tuesday 1st August 2006, 9pm, BBC ONE

  • Dex (Dean Lennox Kelly) is a glass half-full type of bloke and everyone's mate. But he has a secret - he's a devout Catholic. Although he's an excellent father to long-term love Amy's (Tracy-Ann Oberman) children from her previous marriage, Dex wants kids of his own. And he can't square living in sin with his Catholic conscience for much longer.

But Amy doesn't want to tie the knot again, fearful of things going wrong and it ending in her second divorce. Dex leaves her and moves in with Barmpot (Will Mellor), whose bachelor ways give him a big culture shock.

Barmpot's having lady problems of his own, with his crush Nancy (Nina Sosanya) growing closer to Jack (Mark Womack). And to make matters worse his date for the pub quiz, Pippa (Alex Reid) leaves to spend the night with Radge (Cal Macaninch).

Although his own love life is failing, Barmpot does find the words to encourage Amy to finally accept Dex's proposal.

Elsewhere, Kathy's (Eva Pope) coma worsens when she contracts pneumonia. During a tense night at the pub, the lads learn about Charlie (Hugo Speer)'s affair with Kathy.

But defence for Charlie's actions come from a surprising source - Harry (Neil Dudgeon). He takes his estranged friend for a pint where they contemplate the uncertain future of their relationships. While they chat, news arrives from the hospital - Kathy has woken up.
