We are overjoyed to welcome back to the BBC Philharmonic the award-winning cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. Who better to deliver Haydnâs Cello Concerto in D, an enigmatic but graceful conversation between orchestra and cello?
Completing the programme will be Mendelssohnâs Fourth Symphony â in his own words, âthe jolliest piece I have ever doneâ. Also known as The Italian, it was penned during Mendelssohnâs âgrand tourâ through Southern Europe at the age of 20.
Todayâs session will be in the youthful hands of Lorenzo Viotti, winner of the 2013 Cadaques International Conducting Competition.
