Mahler 2 with SÞndergÄrd
Thomas SĂžndergĂ„rd closes our St Davidâs Hall season with Mahlerâs âResurrectionâ Symphony, summoning the full force of the Orchestra and Chorus to conjure the afterlife through music.
Itâs paired with B Tommy Anderssonâs Satyricon, a piece inspired by the tales of three young men in Ancient Rome. Written by the Latin author Petronius, it chronicles the amusing and sometimes risquĂ© adventures of the lead character Encolpius. The rhythmic and extroverted music paints a picture of the scene, ending with, in the composerâs words, âa grotesque dance, wild and noisyâ.
