BBC SSO 2015-16 Season Schumann’s Second Symphony in Aberdeen

Symphonies didn’t really come naturally to Robert Schumann, but love-songs did - and with its quiet poetry, joyous sunbursts and coded messages to his beloved Clara, his Second Symphony might just be the best he ever wrote. It’s the exuberantly happy ending to a concert that begins with Mozart’s joyous twenty-ninth symphony while Ronald Brautigam brings all his brilliance, style and wit to Joseph “Papa” Haydn’s perfectly cut little jewel of a piano concerto.
