About This Event
One of Walesâs most loved music and family events - BBC Walesâs Proms in the Park â returns this September to Swansea, Singleton Park.
This year, ABC are bringing a taste of 80s perfect pop by performing some of their greatest hits including âThe Look of Loveâ and âPoison Arrowâ.
A new addition to line-up this year is West End star Sophie Evans. Hailing from Tonypandy, the Welsh singer and actress was picked from over 10,000 hopefuls to appear on BBC series Over the Rainbow and after being named runner-up, she was subsequently cast by Andrew Lloyd Webber as Dorothy in âWizard of Ozâ. More recently, she has been fulfilling her dream role as Glinda in âWickedâ.
Already on the bill are baritone and winner of this yearâs BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition Andrei Kymach and 22 year old saxophonist Xhosa Cole, winner of BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2018 - who will all perform with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, conducted by Robert Ames.
Leading everyone through the evening will be The One Showâs Alex Jones and BBC Radio 1âs Steffan Powell.
The show will transport the audience into outer space, with music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings including Also âSprach Zarathustraâ by R. Strauss - made famous in 2001: A Space Odyssey, John Williamsâ theme from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and âLake in the Moonlightâ by Tchaikovsky.
Proms in the Park is part of the annual spectacular culmination of two months of music-making at the BBC Proms, as the world-famous Last Night celebrations spill out from London's Royal Albert Hall and thousands of people come together at venues across the UK to be part of the magic of the Last Night.
