 Salim Kholwadia - Salim Ismail Kholwadia was the first person of Asian descent to be born in Gloucestershire and has been awarded the MBE by the Queen.
The Shia Muslim Community  Gulam Musa - The first known member of the Shia community to arrive in the city, he was famous as a cricketer with the Kenyan national team and arrived to study in 1961. His family joined him seven years later.
The Hindu Community  Ramjibhai Popat - Ramjibhi Popat was born on New Years Day in 1926 in the small village of Dungra in Sarat, Gujarat. He left home at 14 and travelled to Bombay in search of work, joined the British Army and came to the UK in 1949 to work for a major.
 Maniben Patel - Born in Samapur, Surat in the Gujarat region of India, she came to the UK in the 1950s with her two children to join her husband who already lived and worked at Dowty Rotol.
 Nandiben Patel - The second Indian lady to arrive in Cheltenham was Nandiben Patel. Her husband Diyarbhai Dahyabhai Patel came to the UK during the Second World War.
 Lalubhai Patel - A retired food development technician, Lalubhai Patel has lived in Gloucester for more than 20 years.
 Gulabbhai Patel - One of the city's Hindu veterans is now in his late 70s and has lived in Gloucester since his arrival in 1958.
The Bangladeshi Community  Badsha Meah - A senior figure in Gloucester's Bangladeshi community, Badsha Meah has seen many changes since he came to England.
 Amzad Aliwas born in 1921 in Biswanath Thana, Sylhet. He came to Gloucester over 20 years ago, after getting a passport and working permit for this country.
 Mohibul Hussain - Born in a village called Joganneth Pur in the Sylhet district in Bangladesh, he came to England in July 1965 after finishing the Bangladeshi equivalent to GCSEs.
 Mohibur Rahman - The son of a businessman, Muhibur Rahman has himself become one of the most successful restaurateurs in Gloucestershire as well as a poet whose work has been published here and in Bangladesh.
 Waris Ali - A former chairman of Gloucester's Bangladeshi Association, Waris Ali came to the UK in 1963 and moved to Gloucester nearly 20 years later.
 Namder Meah - Namder Meah was born in Sylhet on 26th July 1914, when it was still part of India. After a naval career he has enjoyed a long and happy marriage to an Englishwoman.
 Haris Ali - He has lived in the UK for 40 years but Haris Ali has maintained close links with - and financial support for - those he left behind in Bangladesh.
The Pakistani Community  Ehsan-Ul-Haq - A tireless community worker with many different ethnic groups, Ehsan-ul-Haq came to the UK from Pakistan to study law in 1965.
 Mohammed Sharif - Born near Lahore, Mohamed Sharif came to England via Venice in the 1930s and has vivid memories of wartime life. He moved to Tewkesbury in 1977 and ran a market stall in Leominster for nearly 50 years.
 Babar Vaqas - A second generation success story, Babar is a source of great pride to his Pakistani-born parents who settled in Gloucester.
The Sikh Punjabi Community  Avatar Duggal - Born in Punjab, Avatar Nath Duggal lived through the trauma of the partition of India. He trained as a doctor in Calcutta and was at one time Gloucester's only black GP.
 Harjit Gill - One of a family of champion Indian hockey players, Harjit Singh Gill found a shared interest in sport helped to break down barriers when he moved to the UK.
 Parmjit Dhanda MP - While still in his 20s, Parmjit Dhanda successfully took over the seat vacated by Tess Kingham to win Gloucester for the Labour party at the 2002 General Election.
The Christian Community  Manny Masih - Manny presents the popular Asian magazine Sangeet Mahal on BBC Radio Gloucestershire and is also organises the station's annual Asian Mela celebration of Indian culture in the county.
