On the phone

People in German-speaking countries usually say their surname when they answer the phone. For example:
Krüger! or Krüger hier!

Auf Wiederhören is used to say good-bye on the phone (literally 'until we hear from each other again').

If you get the answerphone, der Anrufbeantworter, don't panic. Simply leave your message, die Nachricht, after the beep, nach dem Ton.
