On the phone
People in German-speaking countries usually say their surname when they answer the phone. For example:
Krüger!
or
Krüger hier!
Auf Wiederhören
is used to say good-bye on the phone (literally 'until we hear from each other again').
If you get the answerphone,
der Anrufbeantworter
, don't panic. Simply leave your message,
die Nachricht,
after the beep,
nach dem Ton
.
