Ellen Kent and Opera International's Autumn season opens with two sumptuous, traditionally-staged productions - Madama Butterfly and Rigoletto! The shows feature International soloists alongside The Ukrainian National Opera of Odessa. Madama Butterfly, Puccini's popular tale (which was used as the basis for the popular West End musical Miss Saigon) is the story of a beautiful young Japanese girl who falls for an American naval officer with dramatic consequences. Japanese soloist Manami Hama and the UK based Korean soprano Rosa Lee Thomas, who sang Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall will return to their roles. This classic tale of passion and tragedy will also feature a traditional Japanese water garden, exquisite waterfalls, and a stunning aquarium filled with golden fish. | | Rigoletto - spectacular. |
Rigoletto is the work not just of one genius but two. Based on a play by Victor Hugo (who wrote Les Miserables), this is the tale of a dissolute prince and a jester whose overwhelming love for his daughter leads to tragedy. It will star the lead baritones from the Chisinau National Opera, Vladimir Dragos and Petru Racovita in the title role. This spectacular production, which will also play the Royal Albert Hall, will include hawks and dogs. Please note that there will also be a brief scene of nudity in a magnificently-staged reproduction of a Renaissance painting. Both productions will be sung in Italian with English subtitles. Madama Butterfly - Tue 23rd, Fri 26th & Sat 27th September
Rigoletto - Wed 24th & Thurs 25th September Ticketmaster: 0870 606 3536
