I, Robot

Based on the futuristic short stories of Isaac Asimov, I, Robot describes a Chicago in 2035 where robot emancipation and nostalgia for stick shift cars are key.

Will Smith, playing Detective Del Spooner, a perfect specimen of man, is very superstitious: he alone doesn't trust the inbuilt slave mentality of the robots which aid the population in their domestic life.

When Dr Alfred Lanning, the scientific genius behind their creation, commits suicide days before a fresh batch of NS-5 robots are about to be dispatched, Spooner becomes ever more paranoid and investigates at his own risk.

Pumped up and perfect: Will Smith

Alex Proyas's film has choreographed stunts and visual effects so amazing that it's hard to keep your eyes in tune with the speed of the action.

It references films like Terminator 3 and Blade Runner - but these are infinitely more complex and engaging because the acting is superior and their settings are not held almost exclusively in thrall to CGI.

Ironic then that our Will mourns the loss of a time when the world wasn't supported by robots, when the pleasure of living was more authentic.
