Bob and the Beatles

Rare photographs of Dylan and the Fab Four go on show in London...

As the 1960s began its transformation into an era of psychedelia, free love and unbridled idealism, two of the greatest acts of musical history, The Beatles and Bob Dylan, underwent their own defining periods of change.

Bob Dylan
“Because our names are anagrams of each other people thought that I didn’t exist," says Landy(photo credit: Elliott Landy)

Photographers Paul Saltzman and Elliott Landy were on hand to record intimate moments in the lives of these legendary musicians.

Landy's unique images - often miscredited in the past due to his name being an anagram of 'Dylan' - date from 1968 and capture Dylan the musician and the family man, as well as the iconic country n western transformation behind 'Nashville Skyline'.

SaltzmanÂ’s photographs, previously unpublished in the UK, chronicle The Beatles' time at the ashram in Rishikesh, India during 1968.

Bizarrely, Saltzman had come to the ashram to learn meditation to heal a broken heart, unaware that the Beatles would be there. After camping outside the gates for over a week he was finally allowed inside!
