But it was his blistering performance as psychotic Ronnie Kray in The Krays that he'll be remembered for post-Spandau.
Parts in The Bodyguard, Killing Zoe and Dog Eat Dog followed and recent years have seen him writing for other artists and appearing in the play Art.
Gary C got all misty eyed with Gary K as they talked about new wave, the new romantics and the 80s London music scene.
