Carnival in Salvador is regarded by many as the best in Brazil. Unlike Rio which is mainly a spectacle to watch, the public can buy a ticket and follow their favourite bands around the carnival circuit. In recent years there has been much controversy over the fact that local people cannot afford the expensive tickets so are not allowed within the enclosures for the floats.
