Six arrested during city centre protests
GoogleSix people were arrested during planned protests in Leeds city centre, police have confirmed.
UKIP and Yorkshire Patriots, Stand Up To Racism and Palestine Solidarity Campaign held planned demonstrations in and around City Square and Victoria Gardens from 12:00 BST to 15:00 BST on Saturday.
West Yorkshire Police said additional police powers had been in place to ensure public safety and added the large-scale operation had concluded "without any serious incidents".
Police said the arrests for breaching Section 14 of the Public Order Act had been "in line with what we would expect".
Assistant Ch Con Damien Miller, who led the operation, said: "Our main priority today was to keep people safe and balance the rights of those who wished to protest with the rights of those visiting, working or living in the city centre.
"Although there were a small number of arrests, this was completely in line with what we would expect for an event of this nature, and we hope the people of Leeds can be suitably reassured of our ability to deal effectively with events such as this, ensuring public safety and keeping disruption to a minimum."
According to West Yorkshire Police, the six people arrested remained in custody.
The route of the marches included Boar Lane, Duncan St, New Market St, Vicar Lane, Headrow and Park Row.
A number of bus stops and routes were affected with several diversions in place.
