Two people have been arrested after a man suffered serious injuries in a stabbing.

Nottinghamshire Police said it was called to reports of an assault in Beechwood Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, at about 23:00 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 30s was located by officers and taken to hospital with injuries described by the force as "potentially life-altering".

Two men, 45 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and remain in custody.

Det Ch Insp Les Charlton said: "This was a serious incident and we have a team of detectives working hard to progress this investigation.

"As we work to understand exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident, it is vital any additional witnesses come forward.

"Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in this investigation, so I urge people to come forward without delay.

"Whilst the investigation is at an early stage, we do believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the public."
