Plans for a new 150-pupil special educational needs (SEND) school have been submitted.

Foxwood Academy, based in Bramcote, announced plans to expand in July 2025, building on the site of the former Bramcote Secondary School in Derby Road.

The plans, submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council, state the new £25m building will create the spaces needed to keep up with surging demand for SEND places.

The school currently has approximately 60 members of staff, 110 pupils and caters for students from four to 18 years old.

The plans, submitted by The White Hills Park Trust Ltd which runs the academy, state that the site of Bramcote Secondary School has been empty since its derelict buildings were demolished after a fire in 2021.

The new building, called Foxwood 2, will be built in the shape of an X, with two wings dedicated to different key stages.

Under the plans, the current building will become solely a primary school, while the new site will be a secondary school, more than doubling the school's current capacity.

Speaking when announcing the project last year, head teacher James Hutchinson, said: "There is a real need for spaces for children with additional needs in the county, we need to increase provision to meet that need."

Hutchinson said the bulk of the cost would come from the insurance pay-out related to the secondary school fire.

Council officers will now review the plans before deciding to approve or reject them.
