Man, 21, seriously hurt in Rhodes quad bike crash
Olivia AllsoppA 21-year-old man is in hospital in Greece after he was seriously injured in a quad bike crash while on holiday with his girlfriend.
Ethan Jones, from Idle, Bradford, suffered a brain injury and multiple fractures after he came off the bike near his hotel, which is on the island of Rhodes, on Wednesday night.
He was airlifted to a hospital in Crete where his girlfriend, Olivia Allsopp, said he was in a medically-induced coma in intensive care.
Allsopp is trying to raise money to bring him back to the UK because he did not have travel insurance. The online appeal has so far raised more than £15,000.
Jones's brother, Oliver Gray, 26, said the family were in "absolute shock".
"He was in an accident on a quad bike on the island of Rhodes, just outside the hotel and he wasn't insured," said Gray.
"His girlfriend heard the crash outside and found him slumped over a post, with a pool of blood on the floor."
Olivia AllsoppThe family have been quoted a cost of up to £40,000 to get Jones home, as he would need medical care throughout his repatriation.
"We knew he was a popular kid, but I mean, the way that everyone's come together and donated in whatever way they can, whether it's a pound, whether it's five pound, it all adds up," said Gray.
"It really does make the difference."
He said two close friends had travelled to Crete to be with the couple.
Jones, who is a former Royal engineer and a serving member of the territorial army, kept himself fit by going to the gym every day, Gray said.
He said he hoped his brother's fitness would give him the best possible chance of recovery, and had contacted his local MP for help to get him home.
