Bikers' ride-out for children's hospital charity

Hundreds of bikers have taken part in an annual Easter parade through Sheffield in aid of the city's children's hospital charity.

More than 750 motorcyclists - many in fancy dress - set off on the procession, which was led by former World Superbike champion James Toseland, who has been part of the event for 24 years.

Since it began in 2000, Theo's Egg Run has raised more than £100,000 for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, funding equipment and projects that improve care for patients and families.

Toseland said: "It's been an absolute pleasure, and to see its growth and the impact that we've had on children's lives is something I'm very proud of."

Bikers set off from Tinsley, travelling through Sheffield before finishing at Weston Park, opposite Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The charity said this year's event had funded specialist equipment to make eye tests easier for children and young people.

The money, much of it raised through the charity's JustGiving page, has enabled the purchase of two pieces of equipment called The Plusoptix A20 and a retinoscope, which makes the process more comfortable.

The charity said: "The equipment allows for eye tests to be taken at a greater distance and means that eye drops aren't needed.

"As many children will need these tests throughout their childhood, it's important that they feel comfortable and relaxed, so they don't develop anxiety around the examinations."

Any additional money raised would support the burns unit at the children's hospital, the charity added.

Event organiser, Michael Peat said: "It was amazing to have another packed Weston Park raising money for Sheffield Children's.

"Theo's Egg Run is amazing and now a family tradition for us. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us."
