Two people have been arrested after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash.

Emergency services were called to an incident on the A358 Mattocks Tree Hill in West Hatch, Somerset, at about 22:25 BST on Sunday.

Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 20s, who was riding a motorbike, died at the scene.

Two men, aged 40 and 68, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody.

Police said a Nissan Juke and a Vauxhall Zafira were being driven south at the time of the crash, with the motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction towards Thornfalcon.

The major road was closed for more than 17 hours, reopening at about 15:30.

"We appreciate that an extended closure of an A-road can have a significant impact on the wider road network, but it is important collision investigation work is fully completed before the road can be reopened," said a police spokesperson.

"We would like to thank people for their patience and understanding given the tragic nature of this incident."

Witnesses, or anyone who might have dashcam footage or any other relevant information, have been asked to contact police.
