A teenager charged in connection with a spate of fires around a disused quarry in Moray will not face court action, BBC Scotland News has learned.

The incidents at Sunbank Quarry in Lossiemouth happened in August and September.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged in connection with several wilful fire-raisings.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said that after "careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case" it had been decided that there should be no further proceedings taken at this time.

A statement added: "There is an obligation on the prosecutor to keep cases under review. This includes cases in which the prosecutor has decided to take no further action.

"The Crown therefore reserves the right to proceed and prosecute this case against the accused at a future date."
