Woman, 83, in hospital after 'air gun' shooting

An 83-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being shot with what police believe was an air weapon.

The victim had a chest injury after the incident in Monks Eleigh in Suffolk, shortly before 16:10 GMT on Thursday, and she was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where her condition was described as stable.

Suffolk Police arrested a man in his 80s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at the scene, in The Street, and took him for questioning.

"At this early stage of the investigation, officers are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident," the force added.
