People stranded in rising water rescued by RNLI

Two adults, a child and two dogs were rescued by lifeboat crews after becoming cut off by an incoming tide.

They were already knee-deep in rising water on the west side of the harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, on Saturday, the RNLI said.

The crew was called at 17:26 BST and brought the unhurt casualties ashore about 15 minutes later.

Mandy Humphreys, Wells RNLI's water safety officer, said: "It is absolutely vital to return to the main beach or dry sand at least four hours before high tide time."

She added: "This is especially important over the next few days, as we are seeing larger than usual tides which can cover the sands faster and cut people off much earlier than expected."
